A celebration was held in Chao Fa Ngum Park in Vientiane, Lao PDR, for World Rabies Day (WRD). It was attended by both veterinary and animal health officials and focused on dog rabies vaccination.
The event was opened by the Deputy Director of the Department of Communicable Disease Control before being chaired by representatives from the Ministry of Health (MOH), Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MOAF), WHO and FAO.
After a question and answer activity for members of the community about rabies prevention and control, there was a dog vaccination campaign on site. There were over 100 participants at the ceremony, including veterinary students and members of the public with their dogs.
The OIE RRAP supported the meeting costs—including awards during the quiz session and printing awareness materials for participants—and provided dog rabies vaccines. The event was co-funded by WHO.
