Webinar on September 24 and 25, 2018

To rededicate ourselves in World Rabies Day campaign, we organised a webinar, in collaboration with FAO, WHO and GARC offices in Asia and the Pacific Region to create awareness about the FAO/OIE/ WHO/GARC global plan to end human deaths from dog-transmitted rabies by 2030.

Speakers also zoomed in on the rabies situation in Asia. The webinar was held in English. 

Day 1 (September 24 – 14:00 to 16:00 Bangkok Time)

  • Welcome by moderator
  • Global strategic plan: Zero by 30, (B. Abela-Ridder, WHO)
  • Rabies surveillance: practical linking piloted in the Philippines under OIE STANDZ, (R. Abila, OIE)
  • Strengthening national rabies elimination programs through SARE and GARC education platform (C. Amparo, GARC)
  • Update oral vaccination of dogs project in Thailand (K. Chanachai, DLD Thailand)
  • Discussion (questions can be asked by email or chat)

Day 2 (September 25 – 14:00 to 16:00 Bangkok Time)

  • Welcome by moderator
  • Reduced Post-exposure rabies Prophylaxis (PEP) regimen recommended by WHO, (G. Gongal, WHO-SEARO)
  • Latest development of the OIE international standards toward Zero by 30, (G. Torres, OIE)
  • Attaining a dog vaccination coverage through dog restraint mechanism, (E. Brum, FAO Bangladesh)
  • Fighting misconceptions about rabies through edutainment, (S. Jayme, GARC)
  • Discussion (questions can be asked by email or chat)
