Together we make food safe: One Health approach

Thursday, 3 June 2021, 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. (ICT, Bangkok time)

World Food Safety Day (WFSD) celebrated on 7 June aims to draw attention and inspire action to help prevent, detect and manage foodborne risks, contributing to food security, human health, economic prosperity, agriculture, market access, tourism and sustainable development.

In 2020, a successful WSDF webinar was organised by the Regional Tripartite (FAO, OIE and WHO) plus WFP in Asia and the Pacific.

In 2021, also joined by UNEP, a virtual event was organised on 3 June – this time, focusing on One Health and Food Systems approach to food safety.

Food safety starts at farm level and ends at plate. Food contamination may happen at any stage of food chain which demands multisectoral and multidisciplinary approaches i.e., One Health approach across food chain. During the virtual event, we looked at: what are hazards across food chain, how it impacts on consumer health, food safety and international trade and how to mitigate risk at different stages of food chain. We invited experts and representatives from different sectors to elaborate food safety from various perspectives.

Please see visit the event webpage for the details.

Joint news release: “On World Food Safety Day, everyone from growers to supply chains to consumers across Asia and the Pacific must adopt a One Health approach to ensure food is safe to consume”
